- Business loans for fleets. Compare competitive loan options through Capalona’s free online comparison tool to fund vehicle purchases outright or cover associated costs (like deposits)
- Hire Purchase (HP). Spread the cost of multiple vehicle acquisitions over fixed terms with the option of full ownership at the end of the contract.
- Business Contract Purchase (BCP). Lower your monthly payments with flexible end-of-term options. This is ideal if your fleet requires regular renewals.
Flexible funding built around your fleet
Operating a business fleet is expensive, but buying vehicles outright drains cash reserves, which can halt business growth, inventory expansion, and even staff recruitment initiatives.
Accessing fleet finance gives you a structured way to acquire all the vehicles you need without risking liquidity. You can spread the cost over fixed monthly instalments, so it’s financially manageable and doesn’t stifle operational expansion.
Whether you're looking for fleet car finance for your sales team or fleet van finance for deliveries, there are funding options available to suit different business requirements.
Choosing the right business fleet finance
There are a few options you can consider when financing your fleet, here are the three most common ways:
1. Business loans for fleets
With a business loan, you’re given a lump sum of money, with zero restrictions on how you can spend it. Use it to purchase your fleet vehicles outright from any dealer (auction, private, dealership, etc.), without any mileage or vehicle modification restrictions (e.g. brand wraps).
If you want to finance fleet vehicles with specialist equipment or need complete control over ownership, a business loan could be the best option.
| Ownership: | Immediate ownership from day one of purchase. |
| Repayment terms: | Usually between 1 and 5 years with fixed monthly payments plus interest. |
2. Hire Purchase (HP)
With Hire Purchase, you spread the cost of the fleet over a pre-agreed period. You pay an initial deposit, which typically covers the vehicle’s VAT amount, then you pay for the fleet through fixed monthly payments, typically between 12 and 60 months.
If, at the end of the term, you choose to pay the option-to-purchase fee, you will fully own the fleet. HP enables your business to treat the vehicles as balance sheet assets from the beginning of the agreement. This means you can claim capital allowances.
If you don’t want to pay the final option-to-purchase fee, you return the vehicles.
| Ownership: | Ownership will transfer to your business once you’ve paid the final option-to-purchase fee. |
| Best for: | Businesses looking for long-term fleet retention and eventual complete ownership, without being tied to mileage caps. |
3. Business Contract Purchase (BCP)
Business Contract Purchase, or BCP, offers business owners lower fixed monthly repayments than Hire Purchase. This is because the largest payment is deferred as a ‘balloon payment’ at the end of the agreement, and this payment is optional.
At the end of the agreement, you have three choices for your fleet vehicles:
- Pay the balloon payment and retain the vehicle
- Return the vehicle to the lender with nothing else to pay, this is subject to mileage limits and condition guidelines
- Part-exchange the vehicle for a newer model
| Ownership: | You can take full ownership after paying the final balloon payment. |
| Best for: | Companies who want lower monthly payments, tax efficiencies, and predictable vehicle replacement cycles. |

Four operational benefits of fleet finance
Investing in your business fleet is a significant financial commitment, but there are plenty of advantages in addition to asset acquisition:
It protects your working capital
By not having to pay outright for your fleet, you keep cash in your business. This means you can afford to invest in other areas of your business without worrying about major outlay.
You have predictable cash flow
Knowing what you’re paying out in loan repayments makes budgeting and managing cash so much easier. This way, your business is protected against unexpected expenses.
Make use of tax (and balance sheet) advantages
This depends on which commercial car finance structure you choose, but there are many tax advantages fleet finance can offer:
- Eligible vehicles can be written off against taxable profits using capital allowances
- VAT-registered companies can reclaim VAT on commercial vehicles or qualifying finance payments for business purposes
- The interest payments on business loans and asset finance agreements are tax-deductible as business expenses
Make sure your fleet is always modern
Modern vehicles means less maintenance downtime, better fuel efficiency, and a cleaner brand image. You also comply with Clear Air Zones and Ultra Low Emission Zones across the UK, helping you avoid fees.

PCP is for individuals and BCP is for businesses. They work in a very similar way, they’re just for different purposes.
Fleet lease finance generally allows businesses to use vehicles over an agreed period without necessarily owning them. Hire Purchase, on the other hand, is designed for businesses that want to own their vehicles once they've made the required payments.
